Elder father sent me an email about Feb 2012 WT - my resposne
by TheStumbler ini'm not sure if any of you will remember but i posted on here six months ago about a correspondence i was having with my dad, an elder, about who would die in armageddon.
i was asking some tough questions about children being killed in armageddon and i could tell he uncomfortable with the answers he was giving.. i drafted an email in resposne to his email but in the end i decided not to send it in the interest of maintaining friendly relations.. .
last week, out of the blue, my dad sent an email link to the february 2012 watchtower article about armageddon and said it would answer some of my questions.. here is my response which is a critique of the feb 2012 wt article and some of the broader ethics concerning 'armageddon'.

JW Cable TV Installer Counts His Time.. Home owner very pissed off !
by Hairyhegoat inthe directv guy came by today to install our new dvr.
a pretty simple install as i already installed the telephone line, and the amp/switch box is about 5 feet below where the extra line needs to run.. .
so all the installer needs to do is give us the new dvr receiver, run one coax line, plug it all in and leave.. .

Question about unbaptized publishers
by camicia inmy daughter has been an unbaptized publisher for several months and has decided this religion is not for her.
i tried to tell her before she got involved that it isn't but she had to learn this on her own.
she doesn't want to be an unbaptized publisher anymore, but hasn't committed any sin to be removed.

Just stop attending and when she runs into one who asks she can simply state that she is no longer interested. End of story. Simple is best. No letter, no announcement to the masses, just move on and let one know. Once you've done that they will all know quickly.

A New Servant's Position ???
by Bonnie_Clyde ina brother in a distant congregation tells us that in his congregation it was announced the society has appointed a brother as some sort of overseer of public talks.
not clear if it was all talks or just the public talk.
he understood it to mean all public talks in the circuit.

TThat would be the "Public Talk Coordinator". It's been that way for years. Nothing new to see here keep moving.

why can't we get shows like star trek anymore?
by cptkirk inseems like the original star trek was almost universally enjoyed.
from the kooky music theme 'space.....ahhhhh ahhhh ahhh ahhhhhhhh ahhh', the upbeat message, the deep subject matter...the chemistry of the characters.
you remember being much younger almost felt like not a care in the world?

I liked Eureka a good deal. Warehouse 13 is fun. Honestly, you have to remember that Star Trek was a flop when it came out. It was in reruns that it built an audience. It coinsided with the space program in the U.S. and that had a lot to do with it as well. There was a unity of thought about space being the "final fronteir" at the time. Space hasn't panned out as well as we'd hoped. Now its all impending doom or nothing. That's why I like Eureka. It was hopeful and yet a little techie. (tekkie). Heroes had its day as well. We seem to be looking for something from within rather than from outerspace.

Serving where the need in greater - and leaving the "truth"
by dozy ina few years ago , a very zealous 30 ish pioneer couple sold up & moved to central america to serve where the need is greater.
they were the classic incredibly "enthusiastic for jehovah" types who had deliberately not had any family & led a very "simple" life to focus on kingdom interests.
they were very very close & always worked together in the ministry.

If they are in a land where they are not familiar with the language I'd imagine that the lack of repeated indoctrination would free their minds to think for the first time in many years. Maybe this clarity of thought burst the bubble and they let their libidos go? Also, many stay together because of "the Truth" despite mutual hatred. They might have seen their chance and ran with it.

Are you staying single for the kingdom?
Would you like to send our love and christian greetings back to the whoopeedeedo congregation with our speaker?
Same comment.
Same thought.
We have an appointment with Jehovah and Jesus Christ at the kingdom Hall every week.

Who designed cancer?
by snare&racket inone thing i regret, is not listening to the questions in my head whilst a jw.
one i didn't ask until years after leaving was....who designed disease?
of course the first thing to realise is the complexity of disease, the histology, pathology and aetiology.

"How do you guys explain how the banana fits perfectly in one's hand?" Ok then, how do you explain how the banana fits perfectly in one's ass? That doesn't mean a thing. Damn fundies are all the same even if they are reformed JW's.

Granted Aussieoz but they at least report on the process and do refer to the plaintifs as "Alleged" thus and so. Why is there nothing even in the news referring to the case or the "alleged" actions of the plaintifs? I just don't get it. I'm waiting but having a hard time being patient as you can imagine.
